A specific talk on microbiology blogging is right up my street! Hope to see you then.Connor Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08132413724023944783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4062334622304514923.post-60735248835126891962012-01-06T03:49:08.671-08:002012-01-06T03:49:08.671-08:00Hey Connor,

Sadly, I can only be at the Conference for the day, so I need to cram in as much as I can in the Monday morning session...

Come say hi when we're there!Benjamin Thompsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4062334622304514923.post-79734391012082516892012-01-06T01:02:40.642-08:002012-01-06T01:02:40.642-08:00@Defective Brain: Thanks for the information! I really hadn't considered going as a blogger before, definitely one to think about.

It probably won't happen this year, as I'll be using up half my holiday allowance for my honeymoon and taking off a whole week for a conference would leave me with very little for summer and next Christmas. Next year though, I might try and get in touch with the SGM people to see if they're happy to help fund me to turn up and blog about it :DLab Rathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07962574174521597312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4062334622304514923.post-45121188035358034142012-01-05T08:37:53.878-08:002012-01-05T08:37:53.878-08:00@Labrat - they really are great. And of course I'll blog it but you should check out what @DefectiveBrain's saying, I'm sure they'd love you to be there.
@DefectiveBrain, I think that's the best thing about it, drinking with people outside of your specific field!Connor Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08132413724023944783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4062334622304514923.post-13274544781644022732012-01-05T08:28:05.088-08:002012-01-05T08:28:05.088-08:00I would second that. SGM conferences have a great atmosphere, with tons of researchers from all sorts of fields attending, and you are exposed to all sorts of different ideas. Last year, I remember getting inebriated late into the night with a zebrafish researcher and coming out with ideas for a whole new set of experiments.
Good luck with the poster/ oral presentation (I always tick both boxes) !
@Labrat- Have you tried contacting the SGM media centre to get some funds? Considering your history with blogging the SGM, it would be diabolical if you couldn't go to talks that would focus on this very topic !The Defective Brainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753079302510607981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4062334622304514923.post-69778391516463790602012-01-05T02:31:42.708-08:002012-01-05T02:31:42.708-08:00The SGM conferences are amazing, and well worth at...The SGM conferences are amazing, and well worth attending. I went to two of them while I was an undergraduate (including catching a Julian Davies talk which I was really excited about).

Make sure you blog about it if you're going! I'm not longer a researcher so attending would cost me more money than I have (because I am now a writer :p )Lab Rathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07962574174521597312noreply@blogger.com
